The township of Alice Springs in Australia covers about 5 blocks, located between the Todd River to the east, Anzac Hill to the north, Stuart Highway to the west and Stuart Terrace to the south. The CBD is centred around Todd Mall on Todd Street. Todd Street is home to numerous old buildings worth taking a look at, including the former hospital in Adelaide House and the John Flynn Museum and Church. Getting around Alice Springs is easy on foot, and there is also the Alice Wanderer bus that visits most major attractions around town. The three main streets in Alice Springs which cross Todd Street are Wills Terrace to the north, Parsons Street and Gregory Terrace in the middle and Stott Terrace to the south. Tourist information is available in Gregory Terrace near the Alice Springs Library. Parsons Street is home to more historic buildings including the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame, the Old Courthouse, the Residence and the Stuart Town Gaol. The YHA youth hostel, formerly the Pioneer Theatre, is also worth investigating. South of Stott terrace is Stuart terrace, home of the Royal Flying Doctors Service, where there is an interesting museum open everyday. Following Stott terrace to the other side of Todd River, you will arrive at the Olive Pink Botanic Garden, an arid zone botanical garden in the heart of town. Information about the Arrernte people of Alice Springs is available at the Strehlow Research Centre. A huge vault in the centre contains many artifacts of Aborignal importance, and although these cannot be viewed there are plenty of things to see in the museum. You should also visit the Araluen Arts Centre, where you can usually view work by Albert Namatjira and many other Aboriginal artists from the Alice Springs area. There are many other activities available in and around Alice Springs, including horse riding, hot air ballooning, camel riding, cycling, and excursions to nearby places of interest in the MacDonnell Ranges. Alice Springs also hosts numerous events and festivals in the cooler months between May and September.
